Woman given £18k in fines for parking on own driveway

A woman has pledged to fight parking tickets totalling over £18,000 that were given to her despite the fact she was parked on her own driveway.

Carly Mackie, 26, ignored daily tickets that were left on the windscreen of her car as she had parked it on cobbles in front of her own garage in Dundee.

She said: "We have a right to park in front of our own property. I've considered moving out. It just makes my life so hellish.

"I always make a point of parking in front of my own garage, where nobody else could park, and never parking on the double yellow lines on the road."

Ms Mackie pledged to fight the £18,500 in parking tickets that have been given to her by a private company over the course of the last 12 months. She claims that other drivers have parked in the same area without being hit by parking fines.

"They say the route is pedestrian access, but there are old cobbles that wouldn't be suitable for a wheelchair and just across the road is a smooth path," she noted.

Ms Mackie added that one day she received parking tickets from both the private company and the local council, which the motorist says "made no sense".

When challenged, Dundee City Council rescinded its fine but Ms Mackie's fight with the private parking company is ongoing.
