UK airport tops car park price ranking

05/03/2015
London City Airport has topped a ranking of the most expensive airport parking in the world, with a fee of £315 a week for long-stay parking.

A further six of the top 10 most expensive airports for parking are from Britain, including Gatwick, Heathrow, Luton, Stansted, Edinburgh and Manchester, while Birmingham comes in 11th place.

Friends and families are also feeling the high prices for short-term parking, with London City charging £15 for one to two hours and Heathrow charging £12.

Anthony Eskinazi, founder of app and website JustPark, has described the parking enforcement charges as "remarkable", stating that the results highlight the extent of the problem in the UK.

He continued: “When people are paying more for their airport parking than their flights, something needs to change. We want to redress this balance and make airport parking more affordable.”

Commenting on the results, a spokesperson for London City has stated that the airport's high parking charges are due to its close proximity to central London and its limited parking space.

The spokesperson added that the airport encourages passengers to travel via public transport, providing its own DLR station to reduce the number of cars that require long-stay parking.
