Overnight parking permit scheme launched in Stratford

Parking permits have been issued in Stratford as a means of tackling the problem of overnight parking in the area.

Stratford District Council ran a consultation with residents about the parking problems and has now decided to launch a new permit scheme. Stratford residents who do not have space for a second car at their home will now be able to apply for a permit that will allow them to park in local car parks.

The council has said that the permits will cost £100 for a year or £30 for three months. According to the Stratford Observer, the car park solution will offer people without the space to park their car outside their home a greater choice of alternative places to leave their vehicle.

Permits will cover certain council-owned car parks and allow car owners to leave their vehicles in these car parks between 5pm and 9am, Monday to Friday.

Councillor Mike Brain commented: "We’ve listened to the users of the service and residents following the recent survey results, and have introduced this new evening parking permit in response to this.

"Residents living in Stratford town often have problems parking a second vehicle outside their property so this additional permit is an affordable alternative. A £100 permit works out at less than 40p each evening for a maximum 16-hour stay."
