Illegal parking an issue in Lancing

28/08/2014
Illegal and dangerous parking has become a problem in Lancing, according to one local councillor.

Councillor Geoff Patmore of Widewater Ward has said that some of the worst affected roads in the area include Westway, The Broadway and Orient Road. These illegal parking issues are particularly acute when Lancing Rangers football games are taking place, Mr Patmore confirmed.

He told the Worthing Herald: “Lancing Parish Council owns the public amenities of the football pitch, recreation area, children’s playground and allotments in Orient Road, and West Beach – and the public park their vehicles indiscriminately to access these public amenities on a regular basis.

“The vehicle parking creates havoc and one day somebody will get killed. There is a complete disregard for road traffic regulations and cause severe dangerous traffic violations by parking on the crossroads on the pavements and blocking access to properties in Orient Road, the Broadway and Westway.”

The roads need to be marked in line with road traffic regulations, including a number of stop signs, white stop lines for the crossroads and double yellow lines for the corners, added Mr Patmore.

A police presence at the crossroads during match fixtures was also called for by the councillor to help prevent the scourge of illegal parking being a danger to the general public.
